They are thin wood layers (plies) produced from a variety of logs through peeling, slicing, or sawing techniques.

To enhance the aesthetic value of less expensive wood substrates by applying veneers from more valuable species.
To produce large, dimensionally stable surfaces with homogenous color and patterns by applying them to wood-based panels (e.g., particleboard, fiberboard). This also ensures color and pattern consistency in mass production.
