Lumber is the term for wood that has been processed from logs into boards of specific dimensions, intended for use in industry, construction, and various other fields.
Although there are many ways to classify lumber, it can be broadly divided into two main categories.
Softwoods
Softwoods are the types of lumber typically used in the construction and packaging sectors. The most common examples in this class include Pine, Spruce, Fir, and Poplar.
Hardwoods
We can classify lumber as “Hardwood” if it is obtained from tree species that typically grow in climates with abundant rainfall, take many years to mature, and have a dense grain structure.
In addition to species that grow in our country—such as Beech, Chestnut, Ash, Linden, Oak, and Walnut—many imported “Exotic Woods” also fall into this category. Hardwood species are most commonly used in the furniture and construction industries.
